This course provides an introduction to two related areas of statistics --- experimental design and survey sampling. Topics covered in experimental design include randomization and replication; completely randomized and randomized complete block experiments; designs and analysis of variance (ANOVA) tables for fixed, random and mixed effects models; and efficiency of designs. The survey sampling part of the course provides a basic understanding of sample surveys and emphasizes the statistical aspects of taking and analyzing survey samples. Topics include common sampling methods such as simple random, cluster and stratified sampling; sampling with unequal probabilities, sampling weights; complex surveys and its application to statistical modelling. Prerequisites: ST260 or (ST259 and one of ST230, ST231). Exclusions: MA344.
